Sindh govt told to reply to MQM-P, JI petitions

Petitioners seek empowerment of local governments

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has given a deadline to the Sindh government to file a reply to the petitions of MQM-Pakistan and Jamaat-e-Islami seeking empowerment of local governments.

A two-member bench headed by Justice KK Agha heard petitions.

MQM lawyer Tariq Mansoor Advocate and Jamaat-e-Islami lawyer Nadeem Ahmed Advocate appeared before the court. The junior lawyer said, the lawyer of Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami is busy in Islamabad. Advocate Tariq Mansoor pleaded that local government elections should take place.

Development work should be stopped under the Supreme Court decision, and the recent judgment of the apex court should be implemented.

The Supreme Court has ordered the empowerment of local governments. The public prosecutor sought a respite for reply.

The court adjourned the hearing for April 28, giving the last respite to the Sindh government to submit reply.
