JARANWALA:

A man, in connivance with his mother and sister, allegedly strangled his wife to death for stopping him from keeping illicit relations with other women.

Police said in the case filed by Lal Sher, a resident of Sahiwal district, it has been stated that his cousin Bhagan Bibi married Saeed Ahmed eight years ago, with whom she had two daughters and two sons.

Saeed allegedly was unfaithful and had affairs with other women.

When he was confronted by his wife Bhagan Bibi, the accused started quarrelling with her and on Monday night, Saeed, in connivance with his mother Bashiran Bibi, and sister, Musarat Bibi, strangled Bhagan Bibi with a chador while she was asleep.

Upon receiving the information, the police handed over the body to the heirs after postmortem and arrested her husband Saeed Ahmed and started carrying out raids to arrest Bashiran Bibi and Musarat Bibi.

Cases were registered against all accused under murder provisions.

Honour killings remain an unfortunate reality in Punjab province, with an instance having taken place only last week.
