BHAKKAR:

The first ‘Vigilance Squad’ in Punjab has been set up in Bhakkar with state-of-the-art equipment, including two powerful cameras installed in a vehicle to monitor emergency situations and government services.

A District Emergency Operations Centre has also been set up, where six officers will monitor the screens linked to the cameras.

An official told The Express Tribune that the facility would enable the monitoring of any emergency situation in the district from anywhere in the country with the help of the IP-based cameras. The arrangement has been introduced in Bhakkar for the first time.

The official said the control room would also help monitor nine subsidized bazaars in the four tehsils of the district during Ramazan, the cleanliness of the city and the attendance of employees in any government department.

The objective of the unique system of its kind in the province is to improve the services provided by the Punjab government, as well as the law and order system. Sargodha Division Commisioner Nabil Javed inaugurated the squad for which the Emergency Operations Centre has been activated in the DC Office.

Bhakkar Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid said while briefing the commissioner during the inauguration ceremony that the security of the entire district would be made more effective while keeping in view the requirements of modern times.

Under the new system, the authorities will not only be able to monitor in real time any incident or matter, but will also facilitate them in taking decisions regarding any emergency action.

The main purpose of launching the vehicle and operations centre is to ensure public facilities in accordance with the directions of Punjab government, he added.

ADCG Abbas Raza Nasir, ADC Revenue Muhammad Nasrullah Khan and Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Saleem Chishti were also present on the occasion.

After the inauguration of the Vigilance Squad, Commissioner Nabil Javed told The Express Tribune that the unique initiative would provide the best support to monitor the government and public affairs in the district.

He said the initiative of Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid was a role model for other districts.

The commissioner also inspected the control room set up for monitoring of the squad and reviewed its performance.

He said the ongoing development schemes in the district had also been reviewed and special attention was being paid to the quality of work.

The commissioner said steps would be taken for the expansion and repair of roads to facilitate local people.
