The interior ministry on Saturday recommended adding the name of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Jam Abdul Karim to the Exit Control List (ECL) for his alleged involvement in the murder of Nazim Jokhio.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid also directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general to issue red warrants for the lawmaker’s arrest and repatriation from Dubai through Interpol.

These decisions were taken during a meeting of the federal cabinet’s Special Committee on ECL held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem and attended by Interior Minister Rashid, home secretary and FIA DG, recommended the inclusion of Karim’s name in the ECL.

Jokhio was found murdered at the lawmaker’s farmhouse in Malir last year after he uploaded the video of an altercation with certain people in a car with foreign registration plates. The people were reportedly the MNA’s guests who were in the country for hunting houbara bustard.

Jokhio’s family accused the lawmaker of calling him to his house and torturing him to death.

Currently, the PPP MNA is in Dubai, and after his lawyer expressed reservations of his client being arrested upon his return to the country, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted a 10-day protective bail to him against a solvent surety of Rs100,000. The court also directed the lawmaker to surrender before the trial by April 3.
