RAWALPINDI:

The body of a 13-year-old girl found on Misryal Road within the limits of the Naseerabad Police Station two days back is yet to be identified.

Police said that locals spotted the human head and body parts scattered on the road and informed the police. Police and the forensic team collected evidence from the crime scene and collected the body parts with the help of the Rescue 1122 team and transferred them to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for post-mortem.

The girl's dismembered body is beyond recognition while an autopsy and DNA test reports may take another two weeks to put together, police said adding that the footage obtained from closed-circuit cameras was being examined.

So far, the police have not been able to trace culprits. Data from the crime scene has been obtained and geofencing is also being underway. A case of murder has been registered against unknown accused at the Naseerabad Police Station, police sources said.

A team headed by the SSP Investigation Syed Ghazanfar Shah has been formed to probe the heinous murder. Sources said that fingerprints will be sent to NADRA while samples obtained from the body for DNA tests have been sent to Punjab Forensic Laboratory, Lahore.

Police sources said that in the preliminary investigation, the team has evaluated that the girl did not hail from Rawalpindi nor was she killed in Rawalpindi. The victim was murdered somewhere else before dumping her body on Misryal Road to hide the crime, the sources said adding that investigation was under way from different angles.

The assistance of NADRA and other districts police are also being taken to ascertain the identity of the victim, the sources said. Police have placed the dismembered body parts of the unidentified girl at the Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital's mortuary.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar took notice of the murder and sought a report from Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi and ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits.
