Broadsheet CEO has ‘vindicated’ Nawaz

Shehbaz says Moussavi’s apology a slap in PM’s face

LAHORE:

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the revelations and apology made by Broadsheet CEO Kaveh Moussavi had not only vindicated his brother, former premier Nawaz Sharif, and his family, but had also dealt a resounding “slap” on the face of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his politically-inspired “witch-hunt” in the name of “so-called” accountability.

The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly came after Moussavi apologised to Nawaz during an interview with a local TV channel, saying that he had not found a “scintilla of evidence” during Broadsheet’s forensic investigation against the former premier and his family for over two decades. Moussavi said he had no doubt that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had made cases against Nawaz on political grounds and that was the reason why he was apologising to the ex-premier.

Taking to Twitter, Shehbaz wrote that corruption allegations were made against Nawaz to keep him out of public life. “Now the whole edifice of lies, deceit and character assassination stands demolished,” he added. Later while addressing a press conference in Lahore accompanied by senior party leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and general secretary Ahsan Iqbal, Shehbaz said it was a historic day in the history of the country as the Broadsheet CEO had unequivocally apologised to the PML-N supreme leader.

The PML-N president said he believed that Moussavi had eventually turned out to be a great man because it took a lot of character and honor for anyone to admit their mistake in a public declaration. “This declaration was not just a statement of exoneration for Nawaz and the Sharif family but a resounding slap on the face of Imran Niazi and the NABNiazi nexus.” Shehbaz recalled PM Imran’s tweets since 2018 and his repeated claims about how Broadsheet had proved the Sharif family as corrupt. “But the Almighty has vindicated Nawaz Sharif and his family.

The entire country has now seen the pack of lies by Imran and his vicious political victimisation campaign based on lies. The person tasked with proving all these fictitious allegations against Nawaz had apologised not just to him and his family but also to the entire nation.” The PML-N president went on to say that his party’s government under Nawaz had set up projects worth trillions. “Not only was there no corruption, but Nawaz had actually saved over Rs1 trillion of the nation. Around 12,000MW of electricity was added to the national grid and new hospitals were set up.”

Shehbaz said just like Moussavi’s admission had showed how Nawaz was innocent, soon facts would be exposed that would reveal the sinister scheme aimed to tarnish and politically murder his brother. “As a consequence of this vengeful scheme, the entire socioeconomic fabric of the country has been destroyed by people like [PM] Imran Niazi.
