Actor Urwa Hocane recently took to Twitter to condemn the attack on assistant commissioner Marvi Malik Sher in Mansehra by a group of men. As per a tweet made by the victim’s sister Zoha Malik Sher, Marvi was attacked due to her gender. Urwa took to Twitter to call out the attack, questioning what underprivileged women must endure if a “woman in power” is subjected to such behaviour.

She tweeted, “Another day, another woman falls victim to patriarchal oppression. Painful to see Assistant Commissioner Marvi get victimised [at] the hands of inhumanity and misogyny.” She continued, “If this is happening to a woman of power, I wonder what all the weak and underprivileged women go through in this country.”

The AC’s sister wrote on social media following the attack, “Some ruffians tried to attack my sister Marvi Malik Sher last evening for being a female officer. It’s the 21st century and women in leadership posts are still an anomaly to sick and prejudiced, patriarchy-ridden mindsets in our country.”

She added in a separate tweet that the AC was “able to handle the scene” with assistance from the local police who took “swift and effective action”.

The three men involved in the attack have since been arrested. According to reports by eyewitnesses, the men involved stopped the AC’s vehicle on the road and hurled harsh words at her. After her driver and security guard intervened, both were attacked and injured.

Last week in another act of gender-based violence and harassment, five transgender women were shot and injured after a group of men broke into their home in Mansehra.
