Rainwater storage tank to be inaugurated today

Underground water tank at Rawal Park has storage capacity of 100,000 gallons

The rainwater underground water tank at Rawal Park will be inaugurated on Saturday (today).

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has constructed the tank having a storage capacity of 100,000 gallons.

In the first phase, work on underground water tanks for storing rainwater in three parks is underway. These three water tanks have a total storage capacity of 300,000 gallons of water, and the project has cost Rs0.5 million.

The underground water tank at Rawal Park has been completed, while the water tanks at Potohar Park, Duhok Manshi and Liaquat Bagh have entered the final stage. The rainwater will be used to irrigate the plants in parks and other parts of Rawalpindi. The stored water will also be used for irrigation and firefighting.

Along with these underground water tanks, water filling stations are also being constructed.

PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood said that in the second phase, underground water tanks will be constructed in all major parks. He said that this will help reduce the use of clean water in parks.

He said that the beautification of all the parks in the district has also been completed.
