Security plan for cricket fixtures reviewed

8,000 police officers will be deployed in the city

The Pakistan Super League (PSL-7) parking and security plan will be considered during the test cricket match between Pakistan and Australia from March 17 to 25.

The security plan has outraged commuters, residents near the Gaddafi Stadium and the general public for limiting their mobility and business activity, as well as being a nuisance. The decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order chaired by Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Muhammad Basharat Raja.

Chief Secretary, Inspector General Punjab Police, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Commissioner Lahore and other officers attended the meeting.

Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja said that the Australian team would stay in Lahore from March 17 to 26.

He ordered top security measures for the visiting team and said there should be minimal traffic problems when the team leaves the hotel for the stadium. The chief secretary and IG Police also gave a briefing in the meeting.

According to plan, Lahore Police will deploy over 8,000 police officers around the city, while 45 Elite Force teams, 204 Dolphin Squad teams and 107 Police Response Units (PRU) will be patrolling the team route, and the surroundings of Qaddafi Stadium and the hotel.
