PIMH to set up Alzheimer’s, dementia treatment units

Yasmin says as per vision of PM, Punjab Institute of Mental Health is being revamped

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has directed the setting up of a separate unit for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients at the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH).

She announced these measures during a meeting at the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department here on Tuesday.

Present at the meeting were Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, Special Secretary Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti, Additional Secretary Dr. Hafiz Shahid Latif, Prof Javed Chaudhry and Dr Ali Hashmi from PIMH.

During the meeting, the Health Minister reviewed the steps taken for further improvement in the treatment of patients admitted at the PIMH. Special Secretary Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti presented the details of the new initiatives and status of facilities provided to the patients at the PIMH.

Dr Rashid said, “As per vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Punjab Institute of Mental Health is being revamped.” A special cell will be set up for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients.
