Music education moot starts on high note

Conference will serve as footing for promoting music education in Pakistan

KARACHI:

A four-day Music Education Conference got off to a melodious start at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) on Monday and will continue until March 17.

It was music to the ears of the audience when they were told that soon leading universities will be offering degrees in music.

NAPA's spokesperson announced that the four-day conference on music and music studies had started for higher education institutions in Pakistan under NAPA and Butler School of Music, the University of Texas at Austin.

This conference will serve as a foundation stone for promoting music education in higher education institutions in Pakistan.

The event will include workshops, panel discussions, demonstrations, performances, and question-answer sessions.

The US-Pakistan University Partnership Grants Programme was initiated by four universities based in Karachi, which included University of Karachi (UoK), Habib University (HU), Institute of Business Management (IoBM) and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST).

NAPA senior faculty and partnership alumni were trained by Butler School of Music, the University of Texas at Austin professor through virtual workshops.

Faculty of the collaborating universities was trained in how to teach the music curriculum, aspects of sound design, recording, and digital composition.

Sangeet Sangam, a Cape Stone experience, sponsored this programme between NAPA and the University of Texas at Austin's Butler School of Music, which will start at the academy on October 18, 2021. The final phase of this grant will take place from 14 to March 17 2022, at NAPA. On the last day, performances will follow after the three-day.
