We have faith in our allies, says FM Qureshi

Urges Bilawal not to drag state institutions into politics

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday said the incumbent PTI-led government would defeat the joint oppositions' no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and the party has faith in its allies.

"The allied parties always stood by the government in the past and we are grateful to them," he said, "The leadership of allied parties comprises of seasoned politicians who cannot be hoodwinked by the opposition parties," said Qureshi while addressing media in Islamabad. 

He also asked Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari not to drag state institutions into politics.

"The PPP leadership is resorting to undemocratic and unconstitutional tactics and offering money to buy the loyalties of elected representatives," FM Qureshi said.

Qureshi added that the 'unholy alliance' amongst the opposition parties is a marriage of convenience which was not durable and would shatter soon.

He further pointed out that the opposition had no common ideology and that its only agenda was to oust PM Imran.

"Everybody knows as to why they are scared of Imran Khan," he said. "The drama staged by the opposition parties is not benefiting the economy or the business environment in the country."

Alluding to the situation on the global front, the foreign minister said that the government would move forward keeping in view the national interests.

Earlier, PML-Q leader and the incumbent Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced that a consensus has been reached with the government that the present assemblies will complete their terms, saying Prime Minister Imran Khan should continue his efforts.

The PML-Q, a party that is being speculated to be an ‘at-risk’ ally of the ruling party, announced the decision after a two-day consultative meeting on the ongoing political situation developed following the opposition parties submitted a no-confidence motion against PM Imran, who is relying on allies to survive the no-trust move.
