NAB seeks dismissal of Shehbaz’s acquittal plea

Opposition leader says they will get rid of ‘fraud’ govt in legal way

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday submitted its reply to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s request for acquittal in the Ramzan Sugar Mill reference, seeking the dismissal of the opposition leader’s plea for acquittal.

The court summoned the lawyers for arguments and adjourned the reference till March 18.

Later, talking to the media, the PML-N president said that the joint opposition submitted the no-confidence motion for the people, who are going through a storm of inflation. He added that nowadays if someone falls ill, they cannot get treatment.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan neither knows how to talk nor did he know the traditions. “He (Imran) has done irreparable damage to the interests of Pakistan.”

He questioned the premier’s “revolutionary” attitude, asking where this spirit was during the past four years.

“You came to power in an unconstitutional way … we want to send you home with honour,” the opposition leader said.

He said that a political martyr is one who is sent home in an unconstitutional manner.

He added that the no-confidence motion was brought not out of personal desire but out of aggression against the people of Pakistan. “Millions of people have been left jobless and starving.”

He claimed that the premier was harming the interests of Pakistan. “You came in the government through fraud … we will send you home in a legal way,” he added.

Talking about Islamabad police’s operation at the Parliament Lodges, the PML-N president said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers were brutally beaten, but “we are moving forward peacefully and constitutionally”.

“We are not afraid. We will fight against them,” he said. “The opposition will decide collectively and abide by it.”
