KARACHI:

An awareness session on hygiene among female students was organised at Bahria University in collaboration with the Express Media Group and Métier Group.

During the session, the students were made aware of the principles of individual health and hygiene. Métier Group Director Muhammad Riaz, and renowned gynecologist Dr Tazeen Abbass addressed a large number of female students.

Riaz said these sessions are held to create awareness on topics that are not usually discussed at homes and schools.

Leading gynecologist Dr Tazeen Abbass said the first three years I the world have a lasting effect on a child’s life. During this time children develop mentally, the environment has a profound effect. Dr Tazin said that the onset of menstruation usually starts from the age of nine.

There is no pain at all in the first two years, but it is normal to have pain during menstruation after that. Almost half of the girls have premenstrual pain. There can also be mental distress. It is important to use vitamins and calcium in this regard and also consult a doctor. In addition, exercise should be done on a daily basis.

If menstruation does not occur for three consecutive months, Tazeen told students to consult a doctor instead of trying home remedies. A painkiller can also be used during pain.

In addition, pads should be changed on time during menstruation. Zinc oxide and petroleum jelly should be used in case of scratches. If a person still has pain during menstruation after 30 years, she should consult a doctor.

The age for stopping menstruation is 51 years. In the meantime, if you have facial hair, you should consult a gynecologist instead of a dermatologist. Dr Tazeen said that for good health, having breakfast, biscuits or fruit by midday, lunch and later tea in the afternoon, and dinner is also necessary.

She further added that the notion that bathing should not be taken during menstruation is wrong, but it is better to take a bath with warm water during this period, and a few drops of pyridine in the water can cleanse the internal organs and eliminate germs

Bahria University Medical Officer Madam Mahrukh thanked Express Media and Métier Group for organising this awareness session and said that such sessions provide a lot of information to the students.
