The director general of Petroleum Division (liquefied natural gas/ liquefied petroleum gas) has tendered resignation from service on account of alleged “non-conducive work environment”.
According to details, DG (LNG/ LPG) Nawaz Ahmad Virk submitted resignation from service on March 7, 2022 and forwarded a copy of his resignation to the petroleum secretary, Establishment Division secretary and prime minister’s principal secretary for its early acceptance.
In his resignation, Virk stated that he had decided to resign due to “the arrogant attitude” of top bureaucrats and their “inhuman treatment of subordinate officers”.
Moreover, he said that the tolerance for logic and acceptance of reasoning was missing in the attitude of the top bureaucrats, while the salary and compensation was not commensurate with his skills, efforts and responsibilities.
He said that continuous efforts demanded workload with adequate human resources and administrative support, while no legal, financial and commercial professionals were employed to deal with the very innovative and knowledge-demanding LNG supply chain.
“These major reasons became the basis for submission of resignation from service,” he said.
He underlined that the lack of permanent officers – as officers were deputed from other departments as a stopgap arrangement without relevant knowledge and expertise – and the lack of required equipment consistently impeded the efficient disposal of official work.
“After 21 years of work experience (nearly 20 years in government service), the undersigned has no option but to submit resignation from service to get rid of stressful working environment [to help] avoid facing any such shouting behaviour from senior bureaucrats in future and protect my dignity as an honest and highly educated professional,” said a copy of the resignation.
A spokesman for the Petroleum Division said “all officers and officials are given due respect”. “This is not the first time he has resigned, which is his right, and his resignation is being processed as per rules.”
