ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has told Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that he cannot give assurance of supporting the no-confidence motion by himself, but he will put Fazl’s request before the party members.

During a visit of PML-Q chief to the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement head Fazl’s house on Tuesday, the latter requested the former to support the no-trust move to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Shujaat arrived at Fazl’s residence in Islamabad with his son MNA Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Maulana Asad Mahmood, Maulana Salahuddin and were also present.

Shujaat and Fazl discussed the political situation in the country.

In view of the ongoing political situation in the country, important consultations were held on the issue of the no-confidence motion.

According to sources, Fazl complained that Shujaat did not attend the meeting at the invitation of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.

The PDM president said that Shehbaz had visited Shujaat at his house at Fazl’s request.

“Shehbaz is upset and I am ashamed that you did not accept the invitation.”

Shujaat replied that he had come on his own to remove his grievances.

PML-Q, which is a key ally of the ruling PTI both at Centre and in Punjab, last week assured the incumbent government of its support against the opposition attempts to oust Premier Imran.

The assurance was given after PM Imran visited the residence of the PML-Q chief.

The PML-Q leadership had assured PM Imran that the opposition’s no-confidence motion plans were nothing more than a “myth”.

On the other hand, the ruling PTI stepped up efforts to foil the opposition’s no-trust vote move against PM Imran.

A meeting of the ruling PTI leaders was held in Islamabad with National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair.

The ruling party members discussed the opposition’s no-confidence motion and the overall political situation in the country.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, federal ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Murad Saeed, Minister of State Farrukh Habib and senators Faisal Javed and Dr Shehzad Wasim among others.

According to a statement issued by the ruling party, PTI and its allies were united to defeat opposition’s no-trust motion and MNAs would be approached for their support in this regard.
