The last case: MQM-H chairman’s bail plea adjourned

The hearing of a bail plea moved by Afaq Ahmed, the chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-Haqiqi) in the murder case of an activist of arch rival Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was adjourned on Thursday.


As the bail application was taken up, the counsel for the complainant of a FIR against Afaq filed power of attorney or authorisation to represent the complainant. He then sought an adjournment on the grounds that he needs time to study the case.

Justice Muhammad Tasnim of the Sindh High Court allowed the request and put off the hearing of the bail plea till August 23.

The hearing of a consitutional petiion filed by Afaq Ahmed, who wants the cases against him quashed, was adjourned indefinitely as the court’s working hours were exhausted.

The plea to quash an FIR carrying murder charges was fixed for hearing before Justice Nisar Shaikh of the SHC on Thursday. According to the prosecution, workers of the MQM-H opened fire at a paan shop, killing a man named Atique-ur Rahman in the jurisdiction of Nabi Bux police station. Afaq maintains that as he was in jail when it happened and he knew nothing about it.
