Woman poisons daughter for ‘honour’

Complainant says wife murdered their daughter on pretext of giving her syrup

A mother reportedly poisoned her daughter to death by deceiving her to drink syrup in Kot Lakhpat on Wednesday. Police said the woman doubted the character of her daughter.

Laiba, 17 died during treatment at Lahore General Hospital (LGH). Her father Asif alleged that she was poisoned after being lured to taking medicine (syrup).

He alleged that his wife Saira was unhappy with his daughter for the last few months. On the day of the incident, he went out for some work. His wife mother and daughter were present at the house. Saira tortured his wife as well daughter. When Laiba’s condition deteriorated, Saira called her to the house where she administered her syrup on the pretext of medicine.

She was shifted to Lahore General Hospital for treatment where she died during treatment.

Police have registered a murder case on the complaint of Laiba’s father.

CCPO Fayyaz Ahmad Dev has taken notice of the incident. Police said suspect Saira was on the run. They were searching for her and investigating the matter further.

An investigator shared with The Express Tribune that the victim might have been murdered for the honour. However, the family is covering up the issue with a domestic issue.

Meanwhile, a man transported the body of his wife in a rented rickshaw after beating her to death over a domestic dispute in Harbancepura.

Police said victim Anjum was married to Nisar. She had a 10-year-old daughter from the wedlock and had been living in Tauheed Park. For quite some time, their relationship had soured and the couple would often quarrel with each other.

On the day of the incident, the suspect tortured the victim so badly that she succumbed to injuries. The suspect afterwards packed the body and hired a rickshaw to transport it to his in-laws along with his 10-year-old daughter.
