Work on trauma centre enters final stages

State-of-the-art centre will start functioning from next month

RAWALPINDI:

Work on the up-gradation of the emergency and accident and trauma centre at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Rawalpindi at a cost of Rs400 million has entered the final stage.

 The state-of-the-art centre will start functioning from April.

The DHQ did not have adequate facilities at the old trauma centre despite the increasing load of patients suffering from road accidents.

During the tenure of the previous government, the Supreme Court had ordered the up-gradation of state-run hospitals in Punjab to bring them at par with the international standards.

People who suffer road injuries had to face difficulties at the DHQ Rawalpindi due to the workload as compared to the two government hospitals in the city.

The number of operation theatres (OTs) on the first floor has been increased from three to five where state-of-the-art electro-medical equipment has also been provided. The 34-bed emergency department has been fully connected to the central heating and cooling system.

According to DHQ Medical Superintendent Dr Farzana Zafar, the upgraded emergency department will start to work next month, while the facility has been temporarily shifted to another part of the hospital due to ongoing work in the building.

The MS said that after the completion of work, patients will be treated without any delay time by the most capable doctors with the help of the latest equipment and machinery.
