The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Planning has summoned the chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) over the issue of power outage in Havelian-Thakot tunnels.
A meeting of the committee was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Junaid Akbar. The issue of power supply in Havelian-Thakot tunnels was discussed in the meeting. Committee member Sher Ali Arbab asked who would be responsible if the power goes out while vehicles are passing through the tunnel.
The NHA officials said that the problem is due to low voltage, and new feeders need to be installed to resolve the issue. He added that they have already requested the installation of new feeders.
The committee then summoned both NHA and PEPCO chiefs at the next meeting.
Moreover, the committee also considered Public Sector Development Programme’s (PSDP) proposals for the next fiscal year. The members of the committee expressed dissatisfaction over the briefing on the said proposals.
They said that the proposals did not have the figures correct. They pointed out that research is conducted at universities across the world, but there are no directions for this in Pakistan.
