Book highlighting importance of trees launched

Author to distribute books in schools to create awareness on environmental issues

Pakistan’s first female cartoonist and author Nigar Nazar’s book My Tree Book was launched at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in collaboration Ministry of Climate Change on Friday. The event was meant to enlighten youth and children about the negative impact of less tree environment on climate resulting in global warming.

The book also highlights the importance of trees and forests in controlling the rising temperatures and Glacier Lake outburst flooding. PNCA Director General Zahir Shah thanked Nigar Nazar for presenting such an informative book with the interactive style of description and illustration through cartoons which will definitely help and encourage the audience and public to overcome environmental issues.

Federal Minister and Adviser to Prime Minister of Pakistan for Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam, who was chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the danger of pollution on the environment through quoting an instance of piling up of plastic garbage equivalent to two mountains of K2 which he related with “kooray ka jin” authored by Nigar Nazar in 2002 when he was State Minister for Ministry of Environment.

The minister lauded the consistent commitment of Nigar Nazar to create awareness on social and environmental issues through her comic and record books especially “Garbage Monster/ Kooray ka Jinn” and “My Tree Book” emphasising on impact of pollution, Glof and global warming on the environment and climate and presenting the ways out to cope up with these issues.

Nazar said that she educated students through illustrations in her book so that they clean the environment, not let the other children and elders throw garbage in public places, grow trees, and enjoy a clean and cool environment. In her record book, “My Tree Book” she has illustrated and described the importance of trees in keeping the environment clean, presented information on the process of planting seeds and growing trees, functions of trees to purify water and pollutants.

Students should take positive steps through sowing seeds ad this will result in growing trees in millions in Pakistan, she added. PNCA and Gogi Studios also presented “ My Tree Book” through a song “Aik Achai bhi Achi hai”, mime and cartoon show which was highly applauded by the guests and students. Nigar Nazar also announced the distribution of her book in schools.
