Addressing a press conference in a park adjacent to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan's headquarters in Bahadurabad, former mayor of Karachi, Wasim Akhtar and former Haq Parast local body representatives said that the former representatives of Karachi welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
"The elected representatives of Karachi have been struggling for four years without any powers. Due to the non-transfer of power, the local body representatives faced many difficulties, but we kept fighting for the rights," he said.
"As a mayor of Karachi, I went to the doors of all the rulers and kept struggling to restore powers. Revenue funds of KMC, DMCs should be given but the bigoted Sindh government continued to ignore," Wasim said.
He said that we had sent our draft to the chief minister and requested to implement the 2008 Act, and if you need our help, you may ask for our services as per the orders of the Supreme Court," the former mayor said.
Wasim further said that the order of the Supreme Court should be implemented before the local body elections.
Former Deputy Mayor Arshad Hussain, former district chairmen and former UC chairmen and councillors from all the Karachi towns were present on occasion.
