A student of the Government College University (GCU) was allegedly manhandled by some faculty members after an altercation over showing his identity card.
As a video of the incident circulated on social media, Vice Chancellor Dr Asghar Zaidi said he would pursue the matter after listening to both sides. He said the incident had come to his knowledge.
Witnesses said the atmosphere in the university became tense after the student was manhandled by teachers who, according to sources, were members of a team of proctors.
The BS honours student was sitting in front of the English Language Department near the VC office when a team of teachers reached the place and argued with those present there.
"The GCU proctors' team demanded the ID card from the student who showed them the card. However, the teachers started beating him and accused him of adopting an arrogant posture. They also forced the youth to accompany them to their office," a witness said.
A large number of students watched the incident and more gathered at the place afterwards, reportedly demanding action against the teachers involved in highhandedness.
Some of them warned of protest in case of lack of action over the incident.
A video of the incident was shared on social media, drawing criticism from the alumni, parents as well as teachers.
