Sindh announces schedule for matric, intermediate exams

Steering committee also finalises exam pattern, summer vacation dates as it approves next academic calendar

The Sindh education department has announced the schedule and pattern of annual examinations of primary and secondary classes as it approved the next academic calendar.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the steering committee of the education department which was presided over by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Tuesday.

The meeting approved the academic calendar for year 2022-23, the schedule of admissions to grades 9 to 12, examination schedule, sports and extra-curricular activities as well as dates for winter and summer vacations.

It was decided in the steering committee meeting that the examinations for 4th to 8th grades will be held from May 2 while the matriculation board exams would start from May 17 and their results would be announced on July 17.

The intermediate board exams will be held from June 15.

The chairman of the education boards assured the minister that the results would be declared within two months of the examinations.

The authorities also decided that the examination papers would consist of 40% MCQs and 60% subjective questions.

Speaking on the occasion, Education Secretary Ghulam Akbar Leghari said that they would soon provide optical mark recognition (OMR) machines to all the boards and also conduct training workshops on their use.

All educational institutions will observe summer vacations from June 1 to July 31 while admissions to higher secondary schools will open from July 1 and last till July 31. The classes for the new school year would begin on August 1, as per the authorities.

Secretary Colleges Syed Khalid Haider Shah said that as soon as the result of intermediate board is announced, the admission process would kick off.

The winter holidays would be observed from December 22 to December 31.
