ISLAMABAD:

A comprehensive strategy has been formulated to make the city of Rawalpindi clean and green on the directives of the Prime Minister.

As per the strategy, a tree planting campaign will take place in Rawalpindi city, cantonment and tehsils from February 22 to March 22.

More than 100,000 trees will reportedly be planted around Rawalpindi city, cantonment and tehsils including Taxila, Murree, Kallar Syedan, Kahuta, Gujjar Khan, Mandira, Rawat and motorway stops.

Trees standing 10 to 20 feet tall would be planted, and water as well as medicines and fertilisers will also be provided to the concerned authorities to ensure the plants’ healthy growth.

The campaign is expected to witness active participation by Members of National Assembly, federal ministers, Members of Provincial Assembly, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), private builders, and civil society.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq has said that targets have been set for the beautification of the city, which will be unrecognisable once its transformation is completed within three months.
