Of one-eyed gangsters and gripping comedy: ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ sees Akshay Kumar in ruthless role

The crime-comedy film is set to hit the cinemas on March 18

The much-awaited Bollywood epic drama starring Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon, titled Bachchhan Paandey finally dropped its trailer after several bewitching posters of the cast. Kumar, often seen in a multiverse of crime-comedy movies essaying the titular role of a police officer, takes on the role anti-hero role of a one-eyed ruthless gangster.

The trailer introduces Myra Devekar (Kriti Sanon) essaying the role of an aspiring director hoping to create a Gangs of Wasseypur-esque gripping gangster biopic on the known gangster Bachchhan Paandey. Accompanied by Arshad Warsi, the duo sets on the mission to find a deeper insight into the life of the gangster but sets a miserable trap for themselves instead.

The clip mostly features the Khiladi star performing, often gruesome, acts of violence to cement his place as the ‘Godfather’ of the crime world. With some hilarious punchlines here and there, the trailer unveils subplots with such as Kriti ‘accidentally’ killing the gangster’s love interest Sophie (played by Jacqueline Fernandez)

Failing to find a sob story behind the gangster’s cold heart and merciless mind, Kriti and Arshad seem to be in mortal danger by the end of the film. However, what seemed superficial at this point is Kumar’s journey to become a gangster being potryayed as his ‘childhood passion’ but here’s hoping the character development shines better through the film.

The epic crime drama also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Prateik Babbar, and Sanjay Mishra in key roles.

Sajid Nadiadwala’s production  Bachchhan Paandey will mark the fourth collaboration of Akshay Kumar with director Farhad Samji after Entertainment, Housefull 3 and Housefull 4. Penned by Nischay Kuttanda, Bachchhan Paandey is scheduled to release on 18 March.

For Kumar’s fans, this year holds a lot of screen time for the actor. The Sooryavanshi actor has reportedly wrapped the final leg of his upcoming film, Ram Setu. He will be sharing the screen with Jacqueline and Nushrratt Bharuccha. Other big-budget films include Prithviraj opposite Manushi Chhillar and a war drama titled Gorkha.
