Prison officials told to complete pending work

IGP directs supervisory staff to work from 9am to 8pm on February 24 to clear backlog

Punjab Prisons Inspector General Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig has instructed his team to deal with the pending files of other authorities by February 24.

The IG had reportedly received complaints in this regard from the home, law and other departments.

He stated in a letter that orders had been issued several times to solve various matters related to the federal and provincial ombudspersons, courts, and the law and home departments but complaints were being received that important matters were being delayed. “Such complaints are a source of embarrassment to the department which requires a change in the way we work.”

He declared that the supervisory staff would work from 9am to 8pm on February 24 to handle all pending issues. Till then, the staff would not get an off day on the weekend.

The supervisory staff of the department will complete all pending files during the period.

All the AIGs, law officers, psychologists, technical officers, directors and other officials in charge of the prisons department have to submit reports regarding completion of all pending files by February 25. Afterwards, inquiries will be initiated against officers failing to follow the instructions.
