15 killed resisting robberies so far this year

KARACHI:

Fifteen people have been killed and more than 70 injured so far this year for resistance during robberies while the number of street crime incidents has also crossed the 6,000 mark.

According to statistics, a policeman was martyred on January 1 on the Super Highway. On January 10, shopkeeper Amanullah was killed in Gulshan-e-Maymar. On the same day, Bilawal was killed in Sachal area.

On January 12, Shah Rukh, a young groom on Kashmir Road, and Veer Bhan, a property dealer in Clifton, were killed on the same day, while Abdul Qadir, a laborer in Sachal area, was shot dead by the accused on January 12 while resisting a robbery. Security guard Sultan lost his life on January 14, Saif-ur-Rehman in Orangi Town on January 16, Saeed in Sachal area on January 17, Bilal in Korangi on January 19 and a watchman Muhammad Ali was killed in North Karachi on January 25 by robbers.

A citizen Afzal passed away on January 27 in Zaman Town in similar incident while Osama, a young Quran learner, was killed in North Karachi on February 6. Likewise, citizens Kashif was shot dead in Ittehad Town on February 9, and senior journalist Athar Matin on February 18.

In addition, street crime incidents throughout the city remained at their peak since the start of 2022. Armed robbers deprived citizens of thousands of vehicles, motorcycles and mobile phones. Since January 1, more than 4,000 vehicles and motorcycles, while more or less the same number of mobile phones have been snatched from citizens.
