FAISALABAD:

Pakistan Railways (PR) should revisit its strategy to run maximum number of fast passenger and cargo trains, proportionate to their capacity, from main stations in order to become a profitable entity, suggested Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Atif Munir Sheikh.

In a meeting with the PR technical team on Friday, he underlined that trains were “still one of the most secure, cheap, speedy and reliable means of transportation”, but the railway department had failed to fully exploit its potential.

Highlighting the significance of Faisalabad city, he said that huge quantities of cargo were transported, via trains, to and from different cities, including the port city of Karachi.

“Thousands of people come to Faisalabad from its outskirts to work in different industrial and commercial entities on a daily basis,” he added.

He suggested that the railway department must start a passenger train for the working class, so that they could reach their workplace without any hassle.

PR should run trains with speed of 120 km per hour and it should be enhanced gradually with improvement in tracks and carriages, he proposed.
