A man allegedly killed his sister over honour.
Complainant Ali Mumtaz, son of Mumtaz Hussain, told the police that his 26-year-old sister, who worked at a bank in Jhang district, had been visiting him on leave.
He said that his brother, Saddam Hussein, insisted on taking her to their other sister's house.
Actually it was a ruse as Saddam had allegedly made up his mind to kill his sister as he had been considering her to be a “dishonourable person”.
Ali Mumtaz allowed Saddam to take their sister with him to their other sister’s house not having the slightest clue of the cruelty Saddam was going to treat their sister with.
According to Ali Mumtaz, Saddam took their sister to the village’s graveyard at Chak No. 280, where he allegedly shot her dead. He then dug a pit with the help of an accomplice and dumped his sister’s body into it.
“The accused fled on a motorcycle when I went after them,” Ali Mumtaz told the police.
Police recovered the body from the pit and handed it over to her relatives after postmortem. They registered a case against two accused under the provisions of murder and concealment of body and started raids for their arrest.
As many as 81 women were killed in the name of ‘honour’ across Punjab last year while the highest number was reported in the Gujranwala region where 17 women lost their lives.
