Police claimed to have arrested a suspect, while his three accomplices managed to escape during a police encounter on Tuesday.
A police official said that four bandits were on a robbery spree near Chak 423-GB when a police reached the spot.
The police ordered the suspects to surrender but they opened indiscriminate fire at the police team. The police retaliated the firing and an exchange of fire took place.
During the police encounter, one of the suspects received bullet injuries, whereas three others managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The arrested suspect was identified as Mumtaz, who was wanted by police in a number of robbery and other criminal cases.
The police started a search operation to arrest the other accomplices who escaped from the scene. Police said pickets have been setup and teams formed to arrest the suspects who threaten the peace of the city.
