Two female suspects held in robbery case

Police recover gold, cash from their possession

RAWALPINDI:

The Race Course police have arrested two female suspects in connection with a big robbery committed at an eminent businessman’s resident traced.

A sum of Rs1.3 million and 65 tolas of gold were recovered from the possession of the accused, who were apprehended after the police scrutinised the footage of more than 25 CCTV cameras to track down them down.

The two women involved in the incident were already wanted in different crimes.

While giving a press conference at Police Lines, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Waseem Riaz said that the burglary took place in early 2022 at the house of a businessman named Bilal. The accused women has secured work at the residence as domestic workers and fled after looting cash and gold on the second day of their jobs.

Police registered a case as soon as the incident was reported and examined footage from 25 CCTV cameras to identify the culprits. The investigation led to the arrest of two women, Kaneez and Kiran, from Multan.

According to SSP Operations, 65 tolas of gold worth Rs9 million and Rs1.3 million in cash was recovered from the suspects’ possession.

The accused, who were also revealed to have cases registered against them at the Bahauddin Zakaria Police Station in Multan, have been shifted to Adiala Jail for an identity parade. Further investigation of the accused will be carried out after completing the identification parade.

SSP Operations said that those who attacked the lives and property of the citizens cannot escape the grip of law. The accused will be challaned by the court with solid evidence, and will be sentenced.

During the press conference, the police presented the gold and cash recovered from the suspects to the media. Police said that all the valuables would be handed over to the plaintiff after court proceedings.

Woman sentenced in
fraud case

Con woman Sadia Anwar, who was accused of committing fraud worth Rs50 million by promising a hefty 50 per cent profit on ‘investment’ in a cosmetics and skincare business scheme, was convicted by Judge Raja Qamar Zaman of Accountability Court-1.

She was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs40.9 million.

Furthermore, the convict will be ineligible to hold any public office for 10 years and has been barred from taking loans from financial institutions for five years.

Sadia had conned huge sums of money from her victims after successfully convincing them that she was a substantial investor in Dubai and a known dealer of cosmetics there.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi had filed a reference against the accused in 2020. NAB Prosecutor Sardar Ayub, who had submitted documentary evidence and was instrumental in presenting victims in the court, was of the view that the accused had deceived citizens with great cunning.

Co-accused Nadeem Anwar was granted the benefit of doubt and acquitted.
