Work on three overhead bridges near completion

Funds worth Rs105m released for project from MNA Fund

RAWALPINDI:

Work on three pedestrian overhead bridges from old airport to Islamabad Expressway Koral Chowk worth Rs105 million has entered the final stage.

The construction of the bridges aims to overcome the issue of traffic accidents.

The pedestrian overhead bridge in Shah Khalid Colony has been completed and opened to traffic. It has been decided to open Gulzar Quaid overhead bridge for the citizens next week. Around 90 per cent of work has been completed on the pedestrian bridge near Gulzar Quaid and it will be open to traffic in March.

The pedestrian overhead bridge in front of Noor Khan Air Base has been completed 70 per cent.

Funds for these three bridges were released by Federal Parliamentary Secretary Sheikh Rashid Shafiq from the MNA Fund. Sheikh Rashid Shafiq inspected work on Gulzar Quaid overhead bridge on Friday and instructed the contractor to complete the work in five days. Students have already started using it even before it was opened.

There is a lot of VVIP movement on this road and daily traffic accidents have become a normal routine. In one year, a total of 85 traffic accidents occurred from Noor Khan Airbase to Koral Chowk.
