The Karachi University Teachers' Association on Thursday announced an indefinite boycott of classes till their demand of holding the selection board is met.
Universities and Boards Secretary Mureed Rahimo had postponed the selection board meeting without seeking prior permission. The board had been called for the appointment of associate professors.
The teacher’s association has been protesting against the attitude of Secretary Boards and Universities of Sindh and over the failure of the Sindh government to take action.
Shah Ali Al Qadr, president of the teachers' union, told The Express Tribune that the postponement of morning and evening classes and examinations at the varsity would continue.
“The protests will continue till the selection board, which was forcibly postponed on January 31, is recalled and Universities and Boards Secretary Mureed Rahimo is transferred,” Qadr said.
He added that so far, only the Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards Ismail Rahu had contacted Secretary of the Teachers Association Dr Mohsin - but he was also unaware of the matter.

“The association will meet in a week’s time to review the situation,” he added.
Earlier, Qadr had alleged that a 'feudal system' was being imposed in Sindh. Acting VCs in Sindh were controlling the autonomy of universities, he added.
The new academic session at the university started recently, and the protest by the teachers association comes at a time when classes finally commenced after long disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
