The Karachi University Teachers' Association has boycotted classes for two more days against the attitude of Secretary Boards and Universities of Sindh and has also announced to suspend the teaching process of Karachi University on Wednesday and Thursday.
Universities and Boards Secretary Mureed Rahimo had postponed the selection board meeting without seeking prior permission. The board was called for the appointment of associate professors.
However, teaching process could not be carried out in Karachi University on Tuesday and classes remained suspended. The teachers' union has called a meeting of the general body on Thursday for its future strategy in its press conference held on Tuesday.
Speaking at the press conference, Shah Ali Al Qadr, president of the teachers' union, and Mohsin Ali, secretary, said that when the selection board began on Monday, the secretary board attacked the university's sovereignty.
It was a demonstration of dictatorship and he forcibly postponed the selection board. He said that the teachers of Karachi University understand that this is an attack on sovereignty.
He said that feudal system is being imposed in Sindh. It should have happened that if the secretary had any objection on this board, he should have written a note which is the right of any member of the selection board. Such a secretary should be dismissed.
He said that acting VCs in Sindh were controlling the autonomy of universities. The president of the teachers' union said that ridiculous attitude was adopted towards teachers which could not be tolerated. It may be recalled that a day earlier, Secretary Universities and Boards Mureed Rahimo had postponed the selection board meeting without seeking prior permission. The board was called for the appointment of associate professors.
