Govt announces public holidays for 2022

Nation to celebrate Eidul Fitr on May 3, 4 and 5

The Cabinet Division on Wednesday released the schedule of public holidays for the year 2022.

According to the notification, February 5 (Kashmir Solidarity Day), March 23 (Pakistan Day), May 1 (Labour Day), May 3, 4 and 5 (Eidul Fitr), July 10, 11 and 12 (Eidul Azha), August 7 and 8 (Ashura), August 14 (Independence Day), October 9 (Eid Miladun Nabi PBUH) and December 25 (Quaid-e-Azam Day) have been declared designated holidays for the year.

Earlier, the Centre had declared February 5 a public holiday. The day is included in the list of gazetted holidays of the federal government every year.

The banking sector has been allotted two additional holidays – January 1 and July 1. However, the banks will only remain closed for the public and not the employees.

The holidays for Muslim festivals are subject to appearance of [the] moon for which separate notifications are issued.

Meanwhile, various public and private organisations have announced organising special events across the country to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5. The event will take place between Friday and Saturday to show unwavering support to the Kashmiris for their right to self-determination.
