Japanese citizen ‘escorted’ out of Orangi Town

KARACHI:

A Japanese citizen, Tamazaki Takioya, lost his way and reached Orangi Town on January 19. Police took the Japanese citizen into custody and handed him over to the Foreign Security Cell.

SSP West Sohai Aziz told The Express Tribune on Monday that a Japanese national named Tamadazaki Takiyoya was found wandering in the Orangi Town area. The Japanese citizen was going to the Pakistan Bazaar.

A police squad patrolling the area was surprised to see a foreigner in the crime-infested neighbourhood swarming with illegal immigrants, drugs, arms and human traffickers, besides kidnapping for ransom rackets stretching from the port city to Afghanistan.

The patrol party stopped the Japanese national for questioning and took him to the SSP West office as he was a foreigner.

According to the SSP West, the Japanese national said he was unfamiliar with the areas of Karachi and claimed that he "had gone for a walk and lost his way and reached Orangi Town."

SSP Suhai said that the Japanese citizen was taken to the Foreign Security Cell of the police, which is set up for the security of foreigners, after which he was handed over to the Japanese Consulate.

She said the incident took place on January 19 and the Japanese Consulate also thanked the police for helping the Japanese citizen.
