Suspects robbed shop owner of money, valuables

Residents of Batala Colony caught two alleged robbers who visited a shop allegedly with the intention of looting goods there, tortured them and handed them over to the police.

Police were interrogating the two men. Two alleged robbers visited a shop on Hilal Road area of Batala Colony police station jurisdiction as customers, held the shopkeeper hostage, snatched cash and other things from him and tried to flee.

Meanwhile, neighbors gathered at the shop when the shopkeeper raised an alarm, chased the two men, caught them and handed them over to the police after allegedly having torturing them.

In April last year, robbers wearing police uniform had looted at least Rs800,000 from people in different areas of Dijkot. Police had released photographs of the robbers and ordered their arrest.

One of the victims, a manager at a firm in Saddar Bazaar area, Mohammad Ilyas, had told the Ghulam Mohammadabad police that one of the fraudsters had been dressed as an inspector and the others had some police files.

Earlier in March of the same year, a man was arrested who used to defraud people by promising them jobs in the anti-graft department. Police arrested the man suspected to have received money fraudulently from the people seeking employment in the anti-corruption department.
