RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab Higher Education Commission has asked principals and college directors across 600 institutions in the province to state their requisite demands for the posts of new lecturers, professors, librarians and non-teaching staff.

The provincial government was informed in a summary that the shortage of lecturers and professors had increased due to the continuous rise in the number of students in colleges across the province. With the increase in the number of students, the burden on existing lecturers and professors has also increased manifold.

Therefore, it was sought in the summary, that new recruitment should be made on vacant seats of lecturers, professors and non-teaching staff in colleges. Further, it stated that new seats for lecturers and professors should be created and recruited in proportion to the number of students.

Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar has approved this summary. The commission has issued circulars to the college directors of all nine divisions in Punjab, and to the deputy directors of colleges in 36 districts. They have been requested to provide lists of vacant posts of lecturers, professors and non-teaching staff within 10 days.

Currently, there are 110 colleges in Rawalpindi division and 56 colleges in Rawalpindi district.
