KARACHI:

An accountability court judge handed over three accused, including former municipal commissioner of Korangi, to Rawalpindi NAB officials on a three-day transit remand.

NAB Rawalpindi produced former municipal commissioner of Korangi, Masroor Memon, accounts officer Vakash and audit officer Dharamveer for transit remand before the presiding judge of the Karachi-based accountability court.

The Rawalpindi NAB officials said that TT receipts worth several millions have been recovered from the possession of the suspects. An amount of Rs70 million, gold bricks, buttons, dollars, dirhams and riyals have been recovered. The NAB had to use machines to count the currency notes recovered from the possession of the suspects. Corruption was committed in procurement of petrol and other matters for Korangi Municipal Corporation.

Contracts were awarded after accepting bribes and more receipts were deducted for less petrol. The money was deposited in fake accounts and also transferred abroad. The court was requested to remand the suspects so that they could be produced in the relevant court in Rawalpindi.

The court granted the request and remanded the suspects in custody of Rawalpindi NAB on three-day transit remand.
