Growers should adopt latest methods of crop cultivation in a bid to achieve maximum yield per acre and enhance their socio economic conditions, said Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam Vice Chancellor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri.
Speaking at concluding session of a training course on Friday, he said that the era of traditional farming had ended and the world was shifting towards modern machinery for large scale farming.
“Gradually, this technology will be fully implemented in farming,” he said. “Agricultural machinery has massive importance in the world as it is utilised from sowing to harvesting and for maintaining the standards of agri products for exports.”
Progressive farmers have adopted new technology for spraying and water management during farming, he said. He also pointed out that developed economies were prioritising training of farmers.
In such countries, modern machinery was being used for large scale farming as well as for packaging and transportation of output. Various nations, including China, have developed exclusive machinery for small scale farming in developing countries, the official said.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Society for Agricultural Engineering (PSAE) President Mansoor Rizvi stressed the need to promote agricultural engineering in the country.
