HARIPUR:

Ghazi’s first Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dr Khadija Umer has said that eradicating drug peddling, taking action against land mafia and ensuring security of foreigners working at Tarbela Dam are among her top priorities.

The official, who was recently appointed in Ghazi, an administrative subdivision of Haripur district, was speaking to local citizens and journalists at her office on Friday.

“A police officer’s job is definitely a challenge, and I accepted the challenge to fulfil my goal of serving the public,” she said.

Addressing the journalists, she termed them the eyes and ears of society and expressed hoped that the media would continue to pinpoint the various crimes and their motives in the area. In response to a question, she said that Ghazi is altogether a peaceful part of Hazara, with the crime rate in the area being lower than other districts and tehsils.

However, the land bordering with Swabi, Attock and Mansehra was rife with narcotics-related activities, she said, adding that the valuable land in Ghazi was also often subjected to encroachments and unlawful possession by the mafia.
