Murree police SHO lands behind bars for taking ‘bribe’

Anti-corruption department conducted a raid on the complaint of a local resident, says official

An Anti-Corruption Establishment Rawalpindi team on Thursday detained a police officer for taking a bribe from the resident of Murree.

According to the officials, a citizen named Zubair Yousuf said in a complaint that he was being harassed and blackmailed by the station house officer (SHO) of Murree police station.

The complainant said he owned a private school, farmhouse and other properties in the hill station.

Yousuf said in the application lodged with the anti-corruption department director that his visually impaired employee, Shakeel Ahmed, was arrested by the Murree police on fabricated charges and he was intimidated that his name would be included in the case as well.

According to the complainant, ASI Altaf of Murree police station demanded a bribe of Rs100,000.

Subsequently, Anti-Corruption Director Naeemullah Bhatti formed a team headed by Circle Officer Zulfiqar Bazid. The team carried out a raid and apprehended the ASI and recovered the tainted bribery amount.

Bhatti also said a case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway.
