Punjab govt to recruit 500 civil judges

LHC registrar seeks applications from aspirants

The Punjab government has decided to recruit 500 new civil judges-cum-magistrates and 200 additional district and sessions judges for the expeditious hearing of civil and criminal family cases.

Three per cent quota has been allocated for special persons and five per cent quota for minorities.

Lawyers aged between 22 and 35 years with two-year regular experience are eligible for the slot of civil judges years of age. Lawyers with 10 years of experience can apply for the slots of additional session judges. The age limit for additional sessions judges is 35 to 45 years.

The Lahore High Court registrar has sought applications from aspiring lawyers until January 25. The new recruitment process will be completed by next summer's judicial vacation. The lawyers will have to appear in written examinations and interviews.

At present, a total of 1,736 judges are performing their duty in the lower judiciary of Punjab including in the Rawalpindi district. These judges include 126 district and sessions judges, 482 additional district and sessions judges, 108 senior civil judges, and 1020 civil judges. Of them, 14 additional district and sessions judges will retire in 2022.

The recruitment of new judges will help the early disposal of pending cases.
