Punjab Transport Company working on running eco- friendly buses

Punjab Transport Company (PTC) inspectors imposed fine of Rs45.7 million on more than 150,000 passenger vehicles during the past year for ensuring safe and standard travel facilities for the people.

An official statement revealed that the enforcement wing of the company acted against more than 2,100 smoke-emitting public service vehicles as part of a campaign to eliminate smog. Over 8,430 vehicles were fined for operating without route permit.

Challan tickets were issued to the owners of more than 122,500 public transport vehicles found in poor condition or without fitness certificate.

Fines were imposed on owners of 38,121 transport vehicles over lack of implementation of coronavirus SOPs,

The company took action against 4,550 transport vehicles with illegal LPG cylinders because of safety concerns for passengers. Another 509 vehicles were fined for overcharging.

Sharing details of the annual performance, the company's Chief Executive Officer Khawaja Sikandar Zeeshan said the objective of the challans was to bind transporters to ensure the best and safe travel facilities. He said the enforcement officers were doing their best despite their limited number.

He said Punjab Transport Company would soon run eco-friendly buses for which feasibility studies would be conducted regarding several cities in the province.

PTC Enforcement Deputy General Manager Faisal Yusuf said the company's inspectors also participated in awareness campaigns while treating the drivers and other people respectfully.
