Boy murders sister

LAHORE: A 15-year-old boy killed his sister on Tuesday, allegedly because he was upset about his family’s worsening financial situation.

This is the most recent incident in a string of tragedies of this nature, where families have been torn apart and destroyed due to extreme poverty.  On May 23, 2010, a man in Toba Tek Singh killed three of his daughters in a fit of rage as he was upset about his financial situation.

Similarly, 15-year-old Adnan took his sister Naila’s life, telling the police he ‘lost his temper.’

Adnan and his family live in the Gajumata area of Lahore. Andan worked in a power loom factory, and reportedly had not been given his salary for the last four months.

On Tuesday, Adnan went home for lunch and asked his 13-year-old sister, Naila, for food.

Naila could not give him any food as there was nothing to eat in the house. After waiting for some time, Adnan flew into a rage and began beating his sister with a stick.

Naila was admitted to the Lahore General Hospital in critical condition, suffering head injuries. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted.

Adnan’s father said that Adnan was growing increasingly frustrated and depressed since he had not received his salary from his employer in the last four months.

Adnan’s father blamed his son’s actions on his increasing mental instability, brought on by the looming spectre of poverty.

According to the police, they have arrested Adnan who had confessed to killing his sister.

Police say Adnan revealed that he couldn’t explain what happened to him when he committed the crime, except that he lost his temper.

The police will hand Naila’s body over to her family immediately after they carry out an autopsy, after which her funeral will be held.
