ISLAMABAD:

The business community should identify bottlenecks hindering the improvement of trade with Spain so that the government can address these barriers, said Consul General of Pakistan to Barcelona Mirza Salman Babar Baig.

During his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Monday, he promised the businessmen to leave no stone unturned for promotion of bilateral trade with Spain.

“The two countries have immense potential to take bilateral trade volume to higher levels,” he said. “Spain is an important member of the European Union and it offers excellent opportunities to Pakistan for further increasing exports to European countries under the GSP Plus regime.”

He assured the businessmen to make all out efforts to share real time information with them in a bid to enable the private sector to capitalise on the potential opportunities of promoting exports.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir lamented that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Spain was far below its actual potential.

“Pakistan and Spain need to promote strong business linkages between their private sectors to explore new avenues and enhance two way relations,” he said.

He stressed that lack of awareness about Pakistani products in Spain was a major trade barrier which needed to be addressed to enhance penetration of local products in its market.

He remarked that Pakistan could export diverse products to Spain including marble and granite, fruits and vegetables and agricultural merchandise.
