The Christian community across Pakistan celebrated Christmas on Saturday lighting up the city with fairy lights, trees and their high spirits. Understanding the essence of the festival, and co-existing in a respectful manner, our public figures send their best wishes to the Christian community across the world on the occasion. Many took to their social media handles to participate with zeal in the festive season or wish nothing but joy for people who are celebrating
The eve saw churches observing mass celebrations, malls stocked with people hunting for last-minute Christmas gifts and carol hymns in a distance creating a perfect ambience for the high-spirited festival of joy and love.
After the distasteful act of Karachi based bakeries refusing to cater to Christians and their festive occasion, we saw many positive moments too, such as PIA sending a Santa on their flight to commemorate the occasion and spread happiness. A video went viral of two musicians fine-tuning and jamming to the ever favourite Jingle Bells.
Now onto the social media dosage of merry and love, here’s what our public figures had to say.
Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the opposition party at the National Assembly of Pakistan, took to his Twitter, to send his “heartiest congratulations to the Christian community around the world, particularly to the Pakistani Christian brothers and sisters on the auspicious occasion of Christmas.”
Heartiest congratulations to the Christian community around the world, particularly to the Pakistani Christian brothers & sisters on the auspicisous occasion of Christmas. May the day be the harbinger of peace, love and hope! Let us celebrate our shared values & brotherhood today

Sending prayers their way, he added, “May the day be the harbinger of peace, love and hope! Let us celebrate our shared values and brotherhood today.”
Following in the steps of her uncle, Maryam Nawaz, PML-N vice president sent “wishes of joy and bliss to our [Pakistan’s] Christian brothers and sisters” on the occasion. Acknowledging the minorities as a part of Pakistan, she added, “[Pakistan] is home to a large Christian community, let’s celebrate with them by spreading love, peace and compassion. Merry Christmas.”

Another politician, Faisal Javed Khan, added to the micro-blogging site filled with wishes, and wrote, “Wishing everyone peace, love, and joy this holiday season. We need to continue our efforts for the promotion of interfaith harmony and peace. Human rights, religious tolerance and brotherhood were values espoused by our religion.”
