PESSI to spend Rs350m to digitise hospital management

Software to help improve operational efficiency

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will help Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) set up Hospital Information Management System (HIMS) at its hospitals with the expenses of over Rs350 million.

The HIMS is a software under which various functions of healthcare management are integrated for “improved operational efficiency”.

As per details available with The Express Tribune information or functions under eight heads will be integrated using the software being developed by the PITB.

The first head involved outdoor patients (OPD) that involved issuing tickets, diagnosis, laboratory and prescription.

The other head included indoor patients that included information regarding ward/rooms, operation theatre, bill management and doctors’ visits.

The third head included human resource management like duty rosters, leaves, salaries, duty locations, departments etc.

The fourth head included information like history, registration, penal etc related to patients.

The fifth head was related to finances and accounts. The sixth head or desk is related to Laboratory that included lab reports, results and referral management.

The seventh head was related to prescription of medicine etc.

And the last one was related to system logins of various persons included doctors, patients, management etc.

The PITB is not only helping out the development of software but also procurement as well setting up of hardware.

Out of Rs350 million, the largest share of amount ie Rs109.53 million will be spent for the procurement of desk computers.

Around Rs96.497 million will be spent for networking purposes at different hospitals. Over Rs26.77 million will be spent on the UPS purchase.

At least Rs16.98 million will be spent for setting up of DR server room solution.

Around Rs30.720 million will be needed for the client site server room, over RS27 million for network printers, Rs2.45 million for LEDs dashboards, Rs1.19 million for barcode printers, Rs7.66 million for thermal printers, Rs2.04 million for biometric attendance devices and around Rs14 million to purchase barcode scanners, laptop trolleys and LEDs.

At least 16 major hospitals were being run by the PESSI; four being at Lahore, two at Faisalabad, one each at Shekhupura, Gujranwala, Multan, Sialkot, Gujrat, Islamabad, Okara, Jaranwala, Jauharabad and Jhang.
