IHC extends stay on export of falcons

CJ informed court that import policy order had been sent to Commerce Ministry to resolve anomalies

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) extended on Thursday its stay order for the export of rare falcons till the second week of January, with Chief Justice Athar Minallah giving remarked that animals could not be put in cages for the entertainment of the people.

During hearing of a petition against the export of falcons, the chief justice asked officials of the Climate Change Ministry if they could give an undertaking that they would not export falcons in the future.

The court was informed that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had been asked not to allow falcons export.

The chief justice remarked that the court had ruled that no falcons should be exported.

A Climate Change Ministry representative said that the court had ordered for the implementation of the import policy order in accordance with the 2012 Act.

He further informed the court that the import policy order had been sent to the Commerce Ministry to resolve anomalies.

He said that he would submit the policy order as soon as the changes were made.

He added that after the court decision, the ministry had discouraged the import of animals.
